In the pits after the racing.

One of the most enjoyable parts of a race night at the races is walking through the pits afterwards. Maybe due to the adreneline and the intensity of racing when it is all over the drivers are on an emotional high and are even more fun to visit with than they would be if you met them on the street. Some of them are hurrying to get their cars back on the trailers so they can get home, or to wherever, some are all smiles even if their, or their car's, performance, wasn't so good. Some of them you just want to talk to every time you see them in the pits.

Jim Todd is one of those drivers. When you talk to him he makes you feel that you are the one he came to race for. I happend to catch him in a photo on Saturday night (see image gallery) where he was running to get back in his car while his crew was frantically working on his car, he was smiling then. His car was broken down in the infield. I tried to stay back and record some of this but it was fun to watch. I felt like I was watching a group of men that honestly enjoyed the night of racing even (or perhaps, especially) when in the face of adversity. They got Jim's car back together in time to continue with the heat race. And then he was refired and completed the night of racing.

There are some that even if they do well on the track seem to have a chip on their shoulder. It is a shame but personalities are as varied as the paint schemes on the race cars. Some win the best looking car contest and some are runners up. It is the same with drivers and personalities. Some are fun to be around and with others you are glad they packed up their car and went home.
