Last week (July 14) I mentioned to one of my racing friends (Jason Sanders) that I was looking for a chance to drive a Mini Stock in a race sometime and did he know of one I could borrow. He offered me his for hot laps sometime so I told him that sounded good but I was looking for one I could run in a race. He is points leader in the class this year so I was not wanting to even borrow his car for hot laps for fear that I might break something on a night when he needed it. He said he would ask around.
Later I thought that I might buy a car and run it part time instead of borrow one.
I am the track writer at Meridian Speedway and would like to experience racing to better write about it. I am not looking for another full time hobby but like the idea of running a car a few times.
Later that night I was talking with John Ellsworth about the car he was running (#9 Pinto with #22 in tape over the 9) He said it was for sale. The next week I asked him how the car was and he told me he just bought it and it's therefore no longer for sale but he knew of another.
To make a long story a little shorter; I looked at the car (cars actually) and decided I would buy them. A partially prepped Mini Stock, 1979 Mustang, and a Hornet, 1984 Mustang. A complete well built roll cage is installed in the Mini and a racing seat is sitting loose in there somewhere. The Hornet has a fuel cell and a good engine. They also have a nice 14 foot flat bed trailer for sale. I am thinking about a package deal.
What I will still need: Five or six Racing wheels, steering wheel and quick coupler, new belts, window net, tachometer and gauges, windshield, bars behind windshield, fire suit, helmet, gloves, racing shoes, and probably other stuff.
So if any body knows of some sweet deals post on this forum or call me at (208) 989-3581
Race Car Update
As some of you may already know my plans with building a Mustang mini-stock have changed. I paid the man the money and took home the trailer and the Hornet (84 Mustang). Things happened and I did not get right back to pick up the other car right away. When I contacted the guy he said to me that he did not know where the car was and that he thought I had already come and got it because it wasn't there.
Well, after a few months I tracked the down car and I now know where it is. Another racer has it that races at Meridian Speedway. I spoke with him about it and he told me he had no idea that it was mine but that the other guy gave it to him when he needed a car. He offered to pay me for it but I declined. To make a long story less so, I belived him. I had no bill of sale and so it would probably come down to my word against his ("his",as is the original guy) so I decided to drop it and learn a lesson. I now know who I can trust and who is not trustworthy. I can think up stronger words but I am not in the habit of flaming people even when they so richly deserve it.
So now I am thinking that building a Mini-Stock is too much bother. I will probably help some friends in their racing, but for now at least, building or campaining a car on the circle track for myself is not in the cards. Maybe later.
've got to pick my favorite,
've got to pick my favorite, Jeff Gordon and his flames. I'm not picking the car because he's my favorite, but because I feel the car is one of the best looking!
