wow, hard to believe it has been a month since i have had a chance to post some feelings. Since i last posted we have had a ton of exciting races around the treasure valley. Matt Elliott kicked off the big two day fourth excitement by claiming the firecracker fifrty for the winged sprint cars on the 4th of july. It was a great feeling to see Matt and his crews hard work finally pay off with a HUGE victory!!!The following night brought some stock car excitement with the ASA Northwest tour coming into town for a 150 lap main event--What was probably some of the best late model racing i have seen in quite a while was a huge show for the track as well. Asa regular Bennett had the lead for the better part of the night, all the while holding off charge after charge from John Nesmith--as the laps wound down Chris ratteree began his battle on Nesmith--the two local powerhouses touched in turn one sending the 11 on a high flying ride over the water barrels in turn one, ending his night and sending him to the hospital to be checked out for any injuries--Bennett went on to win and ratteree came in right behind him, unable to capitialize on a couple shots to go to the front. The ASA tour trophy presented by project filter was only one of the awards handed out that night. The Late Models also were running in memory of the late Janie Elliott. Janie was a longtime supporter of racing in the northwest, especially here at Meridian Speedway where her family is still involved, although she is gone, that Saturday I felt her there again--Tara and the girls were the trophy girls throughout the night and front stretch flagman Brandon Prindle read and emotion filled letter to the fans written by Janies family--all of us on the front stretch had tears in our eyes as we heard about and remembered her always being at the track--personally i wanted to thank her family for allowing me to be a part of this night--I have been very lucky so far as to have my family in tact, not having to deal with loss as much as some have, and to see the fans react and the family there being strong, it was both sad and happy, knowing she is in a better place watching over us, enjoying what we all do each and every night here at HER track--thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me be a part of her memory--though it won't be any easier next year, we will always honor her--this week we start a two day weekend with Iron Fist Production MMA fighting friday night and winged sprinters on Saturday, Sierra Jackson will make her first start since taking home the Bob and Tom Naylor memorial 40 two weekends ago-should be a great weekend as we start down the road to the championships--see you at the races----God speed Janie Elliott and all those watching from the best seat in the house with her!!!!!Brent
