Top Fuel crash at Firebird Raceway
I just got a call from a friend attending the last round of the Nightfire Nationals at Firebird Raceway. There was a terrible crash in the last round of the Top Fuel drags. At about the halfway point in the race Brad Thomson, from California, in the right lane hit the wall to his right and then veered to the left and bounced off that wall. There was no fire, only sparks and heavy damage to his car. When safety crews arrived they found him to have a broken leg and other injuries. The car was severly damaged and specators waited anxiously to hear about the condition of the driver. There was fear and speculation that the driver was possibly more severly injured or killed. I was relieved when it was reported to me that his injuries were apparently not life threatening. I will be checking the papers in the morning to get the completed story.
