The Showdown in Downtown was exactly that-but it ain't over yet

There you have it, the Showdown in Downtown, Tater Cup 100, accidents waiting to happen, whatever your thoughts of last weekends big Winged Sprint car show at Meridian Speedway was--it truly ended up as the biggest Sprint Car race we have seen here in a long long time--Think about how you could set up this story line any better than it played out itself--The stars of the show--the legend, possibly more laps around this track than anyone, is chasing down the young gun, Brandon Johnson, who says he is done at meridian after this year to go find his place on the dirt, but not until he challenges the old man for the title one more time--the lady, who has overcome the ney sayers on her way to the top of the sprint car world, Sierra Jackson--the man who has come on late in the year and is fast, very fast--Mike Cullem--the 18 of Ratteree, proving he can drive anything---but it dosen't stop there, Lockwood looking to make a late season run in the 99, and this is his first season, Matt Elliott riding on emotion of losing a family member too tragically, too soon--could on of these drivers do it, 100 laps around the track at MERIDIAN--then you cant count out the regulars who show up every weekend, could the length of this race prove that the top runners may burn up a tire and give the endurance drivers a shot at the elusive main event trophy--well here you go, some people were waiting for the big one in this race, and they didn't have to wait long, coming out of four Austin Hagar, another promising young driver, seems to go up in smoke, running up front--ypu saw what happened next, nearly de jaus vous of earlir in the year, Cullum slams into the wall collecting Cody Veenstra, Hamilton goes up on two wheels, ending up in the grass, Dave Quick flips from side to side in the grass, lockwood is in it as the dust settles--all walk away, but Quick,Cullem, and Veenstra are done, no showndown tonight---Hamilton comes back, but a battle is brewing up front, between the superstar and the budding star--jackson and johnson touch, the 14 hangs in there and Sierra heads to the pits--for the casual fan you may think that the idaho outlaw has it in the bag, but around lap 77 the damaged 01 appears on his rear bumper, and like a rocket the Legend is gone--and let the games begin for the final three races of the year--they are now all showndowns to the title---who is it, the 14, 01, 25, or wil the 99 or 37 sneak in for the kill---Either way the packed crowd saw the greatest show on the quarter mile ever---even if your favorite driver didn't win, it definately satisfied the hunger for the showdown--at least for six or seven days---The family of Kayla Johnston, whom we lost in a tragic accident earlier in the week presented the trophy to Kenny--I am tough, but it was a tearful moment for those of us who are at the track on a regular basis------So that was a prelude to the Three round heavyweight main event --round one is Saturday night--in the white corner, carrying all the history and momentum, looking to show the world that you are never to old to fulfill your dreams--------The Legend, Kenny Hamilton---------in the Green corner, living on the edge, but never going over it, all the adrenile junkies are behind him, quite possibly the best role model out there, looking to say goodbye to the pavement and hello dirt with back to back titles with him----The Idaho Outlaw, Smoke---Brandon Johnson---- or Jackson, Cullem, Lockwood, Ratteree, they are all going to be there, so should you, lets get ready to rumble---you can make your predictions if you wish, but me, I will see it all go down, downtown, at Meridian Speedway!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't miss it--
