MERIDIAN, Idaho — ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway is Racin’ for a Cure on Saturday night with some of the fastest sprintcar drivers in the Northwest set to do battle.
The paved quarter-mile oval will play host to an American Cancer Society/Angel Care Breast Cancer Support Group fundraiser as Mtn. Dew Winged Sprintcars, NAPA Latemodel Sportsman, Project Filter Pro-4s and Domino’s Pizza Legends continue their seasons.
The Jr. Stingers class for ages 11-14 will make its debut, too.
Proceeds from the night’s 50/50 drawing will benefit the American Cancer Society and the Angel Care Breast Cancer Support Group. During Saturday's racing, fans can buy raffle tickets with a chance to win half the pot, while the rest goes to the organizations.
Also, children will have the opportunity to win prizes in the Scott A. Wright DDS Penny Gold Rush for Kids. Children will scramble at the track to collect the most pennies.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for military personnel with IDs and senior citizens, $6 for children ages 7-11 and free for children 6 and younger.
Gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m.

The season’s second night of Mtn. Winged Sprintcars pits points leader Mike Murgoitio of Meridian, Idaho, against 2009 track champion Chris Ratterree of Nampa, Idaho. Back in the Treasure Valley after racing USAC Silver Crown in the Midwest in recent years, Murgoitio owns a narrow six-point lead in the Meridian standings. Veterans Kirk Wartman and Dave Parrie, both of Boise, are in hot pursuit, and Middleton, Idaho’s Sierra Jackson is poised for another stellar season.
Emmett, Idaho’s Dan Buckley holds a nine-point lead over another young gun, Dylan Caldwell of Nampa, in the Late Model Sportsman division.
Veteran Kenny Chandler of Boise sits 10 points off the pace set Herriman, Utah’s Kurt Madsen in the Pro-4s, and Camron Madsen of Boise hast a 14-point edge over Nampa’s Sara Henry in the Domino’s Pizza Legends.
