MERIDIAN, Idaho — The ESI Express ASA Modified drivers who call ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway home have been chasing glory quite emphatically this season.
The pursuit of points in the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship standings kicks into high gear Saturday with a double main event for the popular racing division.
Meridian Speedway pays tribute to the men and women who keep us safe Saturday night with EMS/Police/Fire and Corrections Officers Night.
The gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for senior citizens and military personnel with ID, $6 for children ages 7-11 and free for children 6 and younger.
Other series running Saturday include the NAPA Latemodel Sportsman, Domino’s Pizza Legends and the Thunder Dogs.
Defending track champion Tom Hill of Eagle, Idaho, is looking to move up in the Joe Gibbs national championship standings with a good showing in tonight’s two modified main events. He leads the Meridian series this season by 15 points over Nampa, Idaho’s Shelby Stroebel.
The business owner whose company is the title sponsor for the Meridian series, Hill is third in the national track championship standings with 1.1785 points. Fellow western regional racer Clint LaFont from Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas, leads the national standings with 1.4989.
Stroebel found himself in the national standings earlier this season after racing strong at Meridian and other tracks in the West. He tuned up for the Joe Gibbs run with a feature victory at the paved quarter-mile of Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Blythe, Calif., in February. He was fast qualifier during the May 22 Rockstar 75 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
