MERIDIAN, Idaho — After years of being dark during Meridian Dairy Days, ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway will revive long-dormant tradition of running during the annual agricultural celebration.
A 100-lap main event for the Tates Rents Hornets headlines Cricket Communications Dairy Days Races and Carnival on Wednesday night at the quarter-mile paved oval.
All tickets are $5 for the mid-week races. Children 6 and younger get in free, as always.
For more information, visit www.meridianspeedway.com or call the track at (208) 888-2813.
Other classes running Wednesday night include the ESI Express ASA Modifieds in a quick turnaround after Saturday’s double main event, the Project Filter Pro-4s and the Mini Stocks.
The second installment of the Westby’s Bicycle Race for Kids will be held, too. Bring your helmet and your bike for a chance to win a trophy.
Meridian Speedway won’t hold its normal Saturday night races this weekend, but returns to action on June 26 for the Carbon X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series and the NAPA Auto Parts Treasure Valley 100.
First, there’s the matter of 100 laps for the Hornets on Wednesday. Art Heath enters the event with a 29-point lead over fellow Nampa, Idaho, driver Marshall Burnham. Boise, Idaho’s Larry Hull is in third, just three points behind Burnham.
In the ASA Modifieds series, defending track champion Tom Hill of Eagle, Idaho, finished second to Nampa’s Shelby Stroebel in the second of Saturday’s main events, but managed to widen his points lead to 444, 43 ahead of Stroebel.
Both men have been involved in the chase for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship, and Hill was third when the national standings were last released before Saturday’s action.
Dell Scott of Nampa tries to maintain his slim two-point lead over Middleton, Idaho’s Eddie Ables in the Mini Stocks. Scott lunged ahead to 309 points after taking the checkered flag in the Mini Stocks’ last outing on June 5.
Veteran racer Kenny Chandler of Boise will try to continue his resurgence in the Pro-4s. He leads second-place Casey Tillman of Kuna, Idaho, by more than 100 points.
